11th July 1916
A very short note from an exhausted Arthur, as he has been hard at work, with no time to catch the post; Dollie’s letters have not reached him yet so he is feeling particularly bereft of news.
Arthur to Dollie
Tues. 9.45pm
… Just a few lines from in bed, whither I have retired, “awfully sleepy”. I am just longing for your news, dear, I hav’n’t heard since Saturday …& yearn to hear how you are & what you’re doing.
I meant to have written earlier to-day but we’ve had a very full day. Up at a quarter to 6, parade 6.45 – 8; 9 – 12.45, 2 – 4.45, so I’ve had no time to catch the post. Please heaven I’ll write to-morrow before 4 & tell you of our work. The light to-night is very bad & I can scarcely keep my eyes open. I suppose it’s the effect of the open air!
Good-night … You are in my thought always, God bless you…
