7th September 1916 – Billon Wood
Arthur has managed to write a couple of letters to Dollie over the past few days – despite being on the move so much – and there are rumours that post has arrived for them too. He is in a reflective mood: “It was a wonderful night last night. It reminds me so much of the days we spent in Malta. Do you remember all the trouble we had to find a house that your Mater would like? I remember so well before you arrived, fixing up rooms in the hotel at Sliema & the day you were due to arrive I slept at Marie [Denaro’s], where one could see the boats arrive…”
Arthur to Dollie
Thurs. 11 am.
… At last rumours of a post in. I sent you off two letters last night: I hope they were posted all right. They promise us a post out as well – at 12 noon to-day.
We moved again a bit last night – only about a mile and a half. Luckily it was fine, for now we are in Bivouac. It was a wonderful night last night. It reminds me so much of the days we spent in Malta. Do you remember all the trouble we had to find a house that your Mater would like? I remember so well before you arrived, fixing up rooms in the hotel at Sliema & the day you were due to arrive I slept at Marie’s, where one could see the boats arrive… God bless you.
Take all care of yourself dear, you [are] all the world to me. I am longing for news from you…
