Captain R.V. Agius. Killed October 26th 1917

When you were camped at Mory

I rode across the plain.

I saw your lines, your sentries,

The white tents again.

But you had been in action

And – O my heart – the pain!

I rode across to Houthulst

This time I knew you dead.

The wind whipped my dry eyes,

I had no tears to shed.

But you among the craters –

And my heart in me – bled.
