”Armistice Day dawned bright and clear”

The sunshine fell from a wintry sky,
And the wind blew chill from the north.
I saw the tears that were seven years dry
In the wind as it blew from the north.

Its fang bit deep on our sluggard pride,
That wind blowing chill from the north,
At the thought of the men that had dared and died
When it blew, chill and grey, from the north.

The flag that streamed at the mast, half-mast,
Caught the wind as it blew from the north.
They died: but our Flag flieth fast at the last,
Not the foe’s, blowing harsh from the north.

Cold lie the bones of the Brave that are dead
In the wind blowing chill from the north.
But our hearts are aflame with the blood that they shed,
Blow the wind as it will from the north.
