6th May 1916

Arthur is now “up” in the front line at Hebuterne – writing a brief note to Dollie from his dug out in a village cellar.

Arthur to Dollie

In a Cellar, Satur. 8.15am

This can only be the briefest of notes to tell you that I am very fit, though awfully busy & rather tired. The post goes at 8.30 so I shall just send this off & write a long one after breakfast.

We came up on Thursday. I’ve heaps of your dear letters to answer. God bless your dear heart. They are such a help & comfort especially when I’m up!
