A short note to Dollie [now staying at Annecy Convent, Eastbourne] from an exhausted Arthur: “I hope you will forgive but a short note to-night, dear. We were out all day till 3.30 then a lecture. I’ve been working since & am still in the middle of it … the weather to-day has been fearfully hot”.
Arthur to Dollie
Friday 7.5pm
Your dear letter of the 25th came to-day from Eastbourne. Thanks ever so much dear: we’ve had a long day to-day. I was so pleased to get it.
I hope you will forgive but a short note to-night, dear. We were out all day till 3.30 then a lecture. I’ve been working since & am still in the middle of it.
I am sending this to 45 [Compayne Gardens], presuming you will have got back, as it won’t arrive till the beginning of next week. Thank heaven I am very fit. The weather to-day has been fearfully hot…
God bless you and take care of you. My darling, au revoir, all other news tomorrow…
