A short note tonight from Arthur as: “A great heap of things have come in from HQ that must be seen to. They are a nuisance…” Friend Sandes is having yet another operation and Arthur generously suggests Dollie visit him to cheer him up: “Please Heaven this operation will set him all right again. Does he read much – it would be a kindness to take him something to read”.
Arthur to Dollie
Mon. even: 9.40pm
… I was awfully pleased to get your letter of Friday, dear: all the more so as there was a story of no mail to-day. Thanks awfully, dear.
I am sorry to hear about Sandes, darling. Do go in and see him, poor chap. Has he many friends in town? He must be awfully dull. Tell him he’s to cheer up. Please Heaven this operation will set him all right again. Does he read much – it would be a kindness to take him something to read.
Darling of my heart, I wonder if you’ll forgive only a short note to-night. A great heap of things have come in from HQ that must be seen to. They are a nuisance… I hate these long nights without you – it’s simply rotten. I’m so happy to have our photo. God bless you, sweetheart mine, and so Goodnight, little wife…
