There must have been a tearful reunion with Maria Concetta at the Grove, as ETA finally returns from his business trip abroad. He writes to Headmaster Ramsay on the 19th:

“Dear Fr Ramsay,

I have just returned from abroad and I am very much distressed at the accident of my boy Dick. It must also have been a blow to you. You have always taken so much interest in him and I am very anxious for news, also let me know if I can have him home.”
